Citrus

If there is any tree every Aussie backyard should have, it's a citrus tree!

Citrus are very attractive, productive evergreen trees that range in height from 1.5m (dwarf varieties) to 8m. Sweet scented flowers fill the air in Spring through to Summer and are followed by bountiful fruit. Generally, citrus trees ripen throughout Winter although some will crop through Spring and Summer as well.

Consider dwarf citrus trees if you have a small garden bed or pot and always plant citrus in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight to ensure adequate flowering and fruiting.

When planting in the ground, give your citrus the best start by mixing in some compost and well rotted manure. This will improve the soil structure for good drainage (essential for citrus trees), while adding valuable nutrients to the soil. If planting in pots, only use a good quality potting mix.

To achieve good results, it is essential to feed your citrus regularly as they are known for being 'heavy feeders.' If you are not a gardener, this means they need fertilising and with so many fertilisers on the market, it can be difficult to know which one to use. If you need assistance, our friendly, qualified staff are more than happy to recommend the right fertiliser for your citrus.
