Michelia alba

Michelia x alba (syn Magnolia)

Size:
Height to 8m, width to 3m after 10 years.

Position:
Full sun to shade.

Care:

Thoroughly incorporate compost into existing soil before planting. Prefers well drained, slightly acidic soil. Keep moist in Summer (remember to mulch) and fertilise in Spring and Autumn. Requires some frost protection. Prune towards the end of Winter when frosts are over.

Uses:
Use as a lush, fragrant hedge or as an excellent specimen tree. Very attractive, evergreen tree popular in South East Asia as it is said to bring good luck. Fragrance from cream coloured flowers is used extensively in the perfume industry as an essential oil and will stop anyone in their tracks. Great as a hedge or tree planted near entertaining or consider planting near a pool to appreciate fragrance throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn when swimming. Large, lime green foliage contrast well with other plants in the garden.
